Extreme Weather Can Affect Our Service

Effective September, 2014, there is a change the inclement weather policy.

Regarding escorting children to and from school, we have removed the temperature restrictions.

For this change to be implemented safely, the following conditions must be respected:

Temperature Including Wind Chill Cook's agrees to escort your child to and/or from school only if he/she is prepared with the following outdoor clothing
0C to -9C
  • Layers of warm clothing, with an outer layer that is wind-resistant.
  • MUST HAVE (no exceptions): A warm hat, mittens or insulated gloves, and waterproof winter footwear.
  • RECOMMENDED:a scarf/balaclava/neck warmer to cover neck and face (exposed skin)
-10C to -25C
  • Layers of warm clothing, with an outer layer that is wind-resistant.
  • MUST HAVE (no exceptions): A warm hat, mittens or insulated gloves, waterproof winter footwear, and a scarf/balaclava/neck warmer to cover neck and face (exposed skin)
Exceptions - strictly because of safety
  • Weather Warnings issued by Environment Canada (EC) overrule our temperature policy (i.e., if the temperature is warmer than -25C but EC posts a high wind warning, for example, the school run will be affected and you will be informed to drop-off or pick-up your child at school)
  • If there are sustained winds of 50km/hr or higher at any temperature, the school run will be affected and you will be informed to drop-off or pick-up your child at school)

No Outdoor Time Activities at the Child Care Centres: the limit of -17C remains in place.

Children returning from school in temperatures ranging from -17C and colder will not stay outdoors upon return to the centre. They will participate in indoor activities.

Please see the attached chart for all situations that can affect our service.
